A counterfeit Sam Maguire cup has been touring County Armagh in exchange for “substantial amounts of money,” according to the county board.

Armagh got their hands on the coveted trophy in July after a 22-year wait.

They defeated Galway by 14 points to 13.

Earlier today, Armagh GAA released a statement warning people to be cautious of a fake trophy doing the rounds.

“Armagh GAA have been made aware of a counterfeit Sam Maguire trophy being taken around a number of pubs, event venues, and schools in exchange for substantial amounts of money,” it said.

“Armagh GAA have clearly established guidelines and methods for requesting the use/appearance of the Sam Maguire and will NEVER charge for this.”

The current Sam Maguire cup has been in use for almost 100 years, having first been presented to Wicklow after the 1928 All-Ireland.
