The local parish priest in Sean Quinn"s hometown in Co Cavan, says he went to visit the bankrupt businessman in prison last night, as he began his nine week jail sentence for contempt of court. 

The High Court judge Ms Justice Elizabeth Dunne said she could not ignore the extent and degree of contempt by Mr Quinn and that his behaviour in sanctioning an asset-stripping scheme fell into the category of serious misconduct.

Mr Quinn will be due for release on January 4th.
