The search for missing TV presenter Michael Mosley will be boosted by the arrival of a “top notch” team of investigative officers today.

Dr Mosley is most well known for his appearances on programmes such as the Trust Me, I'm A Doctor, The One Show and This Morning.

Dr Mosley, was on holiday on the Greek island of Symi but vanished in “broad daylight” at around 1.30PM on Wednesday after he left his wife and friends for a walk along a local beach.

Speaking to Newstalk Breakfast, Greece Correspondent for The Guardian Helena Smith said authorities are doing everything possible to find him.

“A massive search and rescue operation has been activated on the island,” she said.

“Today, that operation will intensify with the arrival of an investigative team of top notch police officers from Rhodes and a specially trained sniffer dog.

“Police are hoping that the arrival of the dog will help solve the riddle at least on land at this point in time.”

Dr Mosley had left his phone at the house of friends and told his wife he would see her again back there.

“This was not after lunch, this was after he had enjoyed a swim on the beach,” Ms Smith said.

“Walking along the path to a resort area which is midway to the town, he appears to have disappeared.

“Police are not ruling out that he was affected by the very intense heat; temperatures were very high at the time and may have fallen into the sea.

“That is one scenario that will be researched further; at the moment, they’re looking on the land with their sniffer dogs today.”

The path from the beach is only 20 minutes to the town and police have checked footage from CCTV cameras and nothing came up to suggest he made it to the town.
