Seven Tipperary fire trucks full of equipment are now on their way to “save lives” in Ukraine.
The donation by Tipperary Fire and Rescue Service was funded by the Department of Local Government and EU’s Civil Protection Mechanism - which helps European countries coordinate responses to disasters.
“This act of solidarity will assist Ukrainian fire fighters in their efforts to save lives, property and critical infrastructure,” Tipperary Fire and Rescue Service said in a statement.
Since the invasion of Ukraine began two-years ago, Russian forces have routinely targeted civilian infrastructure - notably the Zaporizhzhia nuclear power plant in 2022 and the Ohmatdyt Children's Hospital in Kyiv last month.
According to the United Nations’ human rights monitoring mission, at least 10,000 Ukrainian civilians have died since the conflict began.
Local officials believe the true figure is likely to be significantly higher.
