The Sinn Féin President is refusing to say why he did not inform child protection authorities after his brother Liam got a job working with children in Louth in 2003.

Yesterday Liam Adams - the brother of Gerry Adams - was found guilty of the rape of his daughter Aine.

The 58-year-old, from Bernagh Drive in Belfast, had denied all 10 charges - three of rape, three of gross indecency and four of indecent assault.

The attacks happened between March 1977 and March 1983 when his daughter was aged between 4 and 9-years-old.

The Belfast Telegraph newspaper today says Gerry Adams is "unfit for office", adding that he covered up the abuse for 20 years.

Gerry Adams admits that Liam told him of the abuse in 2000.

But today he was reluctant to say why he did not inform authorities when his brother got the job in Dundalk in 2003. While Taoiseach Enda Kenny was also reluctant to comment on the case.
