Sinn Féin says the Health Minister must explain why he fast-tracked hospital developments in Kilkenny and Wexford.

The facilities are located in the constituencies of Cabinet Ministers Phil Hogan and Brendan Howlin.

It follows revelations that they were fast-tracked and announced before the Health Service Executive (HSE) even became aware of the move.

'Explanation expected tomorrow'

Earlier the Education Minister Ruairí Quinn said he expected there would be an explanation from Doctor Reilly at the Cabinet meeting tomorrow.

"I haven't heard anything other than what you just reported to me - which is in the media - and I really don't have any more knowledge than that, so I simply don't know" he said.

"No doubt Dr. Reilly will be talking to the Cabinet tomorrow about it, but nobody's suggesting that the work that was done should not have been done - but we'll just have to see what exactly has happened, and it'll be for Dr. Reilly to tell us" he added.

Gerry Adams says the coalition is behaving like Fianna Fáil did in the past.
