Sinn Fein's Chris Andrews says the Government has failed with any emergency planning measures. Andrews compared the Irish government’s response to that of the British government, saying:
“In England the environment secretary has brought together a meeting of his powerful cobra committee to the response, but here in Ireland our ministers are missing in action. In previous years the task force on emergency and planning met regularly to respond to snow and freezing weather conditions, however this year minister Hogan and minister for defence are missing in action.”
Many areas of the country have been badly affected by the stormy conditions of the past week, with Cork, Galway, Limerick and Clare worst affected. Clean up operations continue across the country to respond to damage caused by flooding and high winds.
In the wake of high winds and flooding across the country the cleanup operations are continuing across the country, after destruction caused by floods and high winds.
Met Eireann has warned that the unsettled weather is to last until the early part of next week, with strong winds, high seas and heavy rain set to cause more damage.
Temperatures dropped across the country overnight, with frost affecting many areas.
The repair bill from storm damage is already running into the millions.
