Attendees at the US Ambassador’s election night party in Dublin have been heckled and booed by pro-Palestine protesters, shouting ‘Shame on you’.

Around 1,000 people including ambassadors, Irish government officials and members of the public attended the party at the Guinness Storehouse last night.

Outside, dozens of people waved Palestinian flags and banners that proclaimed ‘Break [the] Chains of Zionism’ and ‘Mothers Against Genocide’.

As people crossed a Garda barricade to attend the party, the protestors shouted, ‘Shame on you’ and, ‘There’s a Holocaust going on’.

Since Hamas' attack on October 7th last year, the United States has spent billions on military aid for Israel - even though President Joe Biden has called for a ceasefire.

“I’m outside the Guinness Storehouse protesting because the US Ambassador is inside dining while children are dying in Gaza,” one woman told Newstalk’s Henry McKean.

“I’m out here because I live in this area and I disagree that Guinness should be inviting the US Ambassador here to our community.

“We’ll stand up in solidarity with Palestine, the people of Lebanon and the Middle East.”

Another woman said the pain and suffering of Palestinians had left her hugely upset.

“I’m here today because it’s the only thing I can do in support of the Palestinian people who have no power to do anything,” she said.

“They are being oppressed, they are being bombed, they are living under apartheid and this is the best I can do for them - this is all I can do for them.”

According to the United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs, an estimated 43,000 Palestinians have died since the conflict began last year.

'Help me calm down a bit'

Inside the event, Abbey, an American student studying at UCD said the election was “very nerve wracking”.

“I’m happy to be with other people who understand what’s at stake in this election and can help me calm down a bit,” she said.

Another US citizen in attendance, Saoirse, a Democratic activist from Virginia, said she had been “particularly excited” to vote in this year’s election.

“I’ve no way of knowing how this race will go but I have all the hope in the world that we did the work,” she said.

Donald Trump will win the election with at least 276 electoral votes and has become the first Republican in 20-years to win the popular vote.
