Femicide is on the rise in Ireland, a new study has found.
Figures from the Office of the State Pathologist reveal that between 2021 and 2023, women accounted for 29% of all homicides reported to the State body.
By contrast, in the years 2012 to 2020, slightly under one-in-five, 19%, of murder victims were women.
The Irish Independent reports that of the 97 women and girls murdered, all but one were killed by a man.
The study also reveals over half were committed by a current or former partner.
The research also found that the average age of victims was 42.
Last year, seven women were killed in Ireland - down significantly on the 13 who died in 2022.
