A father spent dinner at his daughter’s wedding with his phone glued to his ear because he was listening to Kerry play Tyrone.
A picture of Kevin O’Sullivan and his daughter in her wedding dress was taken by his niece and went viral on Twitter.
Speaking to Lunchtime Live, Kevin said his daughter was well aware of what he was doing.
“Oh, she did,” he said.
“She was listening in as well. She likes Kerry and she likes the matches.”
The family were unaware that Kerry would be playing Tyrone in the All-Ireland semi-finals when they set the date for the wedding and had to factor in the match around the celebrations.
“It was only two weeks ago we knew about the match that it was on that date,” Kevin said.
“So, we just had to take it; we said we’d listen to it.”
Kevin’s son, Kevin Jnr, said his sister is well aware of just how much her father loves to watch Kerry play.
“She knows the situation,” he said.
“On the Sunday, the spuds don’t go on until the second half.
“As I said to her on the day, Kerry was around long before any of us.”
Wedding planner Sharon MacNeil said sport fixtures are just another thing couples should think about when they’re planning their big day.
“What I always say to people when they’re starting out is, ‘Look at the calendar,’” she said.
“If you’re booking your wedding a year out, two years out, always have a look at the big sporting events.”
She said people who try and fight against people’s love for sports will only mean “bringing stress on yourself”.
Instead, she suggest trying to incorporate it into the day itself as much as possible.
