Shelley Duvall, known for her iconic role in Stanley Kubrick’s The Shining, has passed away at the age of 75.
The husband of the US actress, Dan Gilroy, told The Hollywood Reporter that she died due to diabetes complications at her home in Texas today.
Born in Fort Worth, Texas in 1949, Duvall’s acting career began in the 1970s when she became a distinctive figure in Hollywood, known for her unique look.
Notable works
Her collaborations with director Robert Altman produced several notable films, including Brewster McCloud (1970), McCabe & Mrs. Miller (1971), and Nashville (1975).
Her role in Altman’s 3 Women (1977) earned her the Best Actress award at the Cannes Film Festival.
Duvall’s portrayal of Wendy Torrance in the 1980 horror classic The Shining remains one of her most iconic performances.
She stepped away from the public eye in the 1990s but returned to the screen for what would be her final film, The Forest Hills, in 2023.
