Locals in Finglas are in a state of “shock” after a man died in an assault last night.
The man, who was 63, died outside a house in Dunsink Green and it is understood he was stabbed in the front garden.
He was then rushed to Connolly Hospital in Blanchardstown, where he was later pronounced dead.
The house, at the end of a terrace, has been sealed off and the Garda Technical Bureau has arrived to photograph the front garden.
Three squad cars and a number of detectives are also present.
Locals told Newstalk it was sad news to wake up to.
“It was a shock to hear that someone had passed away in the way he did,” one man said.
“Around 12ish we heard the helicopters and just looked out the window,” another local resident said.
“It was out there for a good while and my [partner] told me that something had happened in the house just around the corner.”
Another local man described it as “terrible” news.
“You don’t expect that at this time of the year,” he said.
“Or any time of the year.”
A post mortem has been scheduled and a senior investigating officer appointed as Gardaí try to establish what led to the man's death.
They have appealed to anyone who may have witnessed the incident, has camera footage from the area or has any information to come forward.
