A shotgun and ammunition have been seized in Mullingar, County Westmeath as part of a Garda operation.
It follows a number of incidents in the Mullingar area in recent days and weeks with uniform and plainclothes Gardaí carrying out "pro-active patrols".
Officers searched an open area of waste ground, supported by the Garda Dog Unit, and recovered a concealed shotgun and cartridges yesterday.

The gun and cartridges are being taken to the Garda Ballistics Unit for further analysis.
No arrests have been made and investigations into this seizure and related incidents are ongoing.
Gardaí are appealing to anyone with information in relation to the recovery of this firearm or any other criminal activity or threats in Mullingar to contact them.
