Gardaí are investigating a suspected arson attack and shooting in Limerick.

Gardaí and emergency services were called to a car fire at a home in Ballinacurra Weston shortly after 2 o'clock this morning.

Local residents had also reported that gun shots had been fired at the house.

No one was injured in the incident.

Gardaí noticed a suspicious device on the ground and the army was called in to make it safe.

A cordon was setup and the Explosive Ordnance Disposal unit took it away for examination.

Gardaí say investigations are continuing.
