Bray Councillor Dermot O'Brien said this will allow people to " line up in their own dignified way and maybe just have that moment".
"It really, to me, shows that there was this heart connection between the people of the town and this icon, who on one level had this extraordinary talent, but on another level, for us, is quite comfortable in the ordinary," he said.
"There's some interesting healing opportunity that the family are gifting us, the town, which is powerful."
Last week, O'Connor's family issued a statement saying the singer had "loved living in Bray and the people in it.”
“With this procession, her family would like to acknowledge the outpouring of love for her from the people of Co Wicklow and beyond, since she left last week to go to another place," they said.
Gardaí have asked that people gather from 10.30am along the Bray seafront.
