Sinéad O’Connor has announced on her blog that she plans to join Sinn Féin as she would like to see a ‘proper socialist Ireland’.
“I’m joining Sinn Féin now. If they’ll have me,” she revealed.
She expressed her eagerness to learn and her passion to revolt.
“I’d like to be educated as to how ordinary people like me can help bring about the changes which would make every child equally cherished and make everyone have equal rights. I realised the best way to revolt is vote.”
She then followed up the post on her Facebook page.
(function(d, s, id) { var js, fjs = d.getElementsByTagName(s)[0]; if (d.getElementById(id)) return; js = d.createElement(s); js.id = id; js.src = "//connect.facebook.net/en_US/all.js#xfbml=1"; fjs.parentNode.insertBefore(js, fjs); }(document, 'script', 'facebook-jssdk'));
A spokesperson for the party said they welcomed Ms O'Connor's application which is still be processed.
“A growing number of citizens across Ireland view Sinn Féin as a force for fundamental change.
“We look forward to working with Sinead as part of Sinn Féin delivering change in communities across Ireland,” they added.
