Allowances and Grants are paid out by Revenue to assist workers with work-related things they have to buy. There are hundreds of them.
Workwear: if you wear (or launder) a uniform for work, you get an allowance (e.g. nurses, physios, tradespeople etc). Karen Millen’s latest collection doesn’t count! It must be “wholly, exclusively and necessarily” used for work.
Laundry:Â Hospital workers (domestics, porters etc) required to supply/launder uniforms get €353 pa
If laundry only: €185; even if supplied/laundered for them they get €93 pa
Nurses: €258 ”“ 733
If you’re a TD you can claim €3,500 annual allowance for dry cleaning!
Tools: Skilled Workers who provide own tools & overalls:Â flat rate all: €331
