Sinn Féin has been warned that dissident Republicans are planning a car bomb attack against a member of the party, according to the party's vice-president Michelle O'Neill.
Ms O'Neill said they've been told by the PSNI that the so-called New IRA is planning to use an 'under car explosive device' to attack a Sinn Féin member.
They've been warned the planned attack 'could happen anywhere' in Northern Ireland.
In a statement, Ms O'Neill said: “This is literally a threat against thousands of Sinn Féin members and their families in the north.
“This is not the first time this particular group have made threats against Sinn Féin members and the PSNI is taking this threat very seriously.
“I am urging the party’s members to be very vigilant at this time."
She said the "dangerous and disgraceful threat" comes amid renewed debate about Irish unity, and suggested that "the response of these so-called Republicans is to plan attacks on Sinn Féin members".
Ms O'Neill called on the group to withdraw its threat and disband.
It comes only a week after senior members of Sinn Féin in the North were warned of threats against their lives after attending a PSNI recruitment event.
Ms O'Neill and Policing Board member Gerry Kelly became the party's first representatives to attend such an event.
