SIPTU drivers atDublin Bus have voted against taking strike action. A ballot was taken as the company plans to introduce new cost cutting measures on November 17th.

Workers from the National Bus and Rail Union (NBRU) had already accepted the cost saving strategy.

Dublin Bus has welcomed this development. In a statement the company says it looks forward to building on these advancements to ensure the firm returns to financial stability.

"The last number of years have been difficult for all employees who have worked together to implement a number of Cost Cutting and Change Programmes. Against this backdrop, Dublin Bus has delivered many positive developments with improved services through the Network Direct Project and various customer service improvements...All of these changes have been achieved with the co-operation and dedication of our employees and Trade Unions" it added.

The company also thanked the independent experts appointed by the government/ICTU/IBEC Taskforce, Labour Relations Commission and the Labour Court for their work.

The Minister for Transport Leo Varadkar and Minister of State for Public Transport Alan Kelly said this outcome "is in the best interests of the company, all of its employees, and everyone who depends on its services".
