SIPTU officials say they are not hopeful a resolution can be found in the pension dispute with the Dublin Airport Authority (DAA) and Aer Lingus.
Yesterday the union called off planned work stoppages for Monday.
It says 15,000 members at Dublin, Shannon and Cork airports are affected.
Representatives of both sides in the row agreed to re-enter talks which are currently underway at the Labour Relations Commission (LRC) in Dublin.
Yesterday workers deferred their planned industrial action for next week after accepting an invitation to talks from the LRC body.
The dispute with the DAA relates to the pension plan of the company.
The industrial action may have affected all 3 of the main airports here.
Representatives of SIPTU met yesterday morning where they decided to engage in the discussions today.
In a letter sent to the union on Tuesday Aer Lingus maintained that the row with the union over pensions did not constitute a trade dispute.
Dermot O’Loughlin from SIPTU spoke on his way into the LRC.
He says there is not any deal in sight at this stage.
