Gardai in Cork have arrested 6 people in Cork in connection with a million euro mortgage fraud scam.

The men and women were arrested by members of the fraud squad in Anglesea Street in Cork and the Organised Crime Unit.

The 6 were allegedly sourcing mortgages from banks using false documents like P60s and driving licences under false names.

Gardai were alerted to the 'extremely elaborate' scam when banks made contact with them.

A number of houses and offices were raided this morning. They can be held for up to 7 days.
