John 'Jack' Dunne, formerly based at Pearse Street Garda station in Dublin, admitted 14 counts of indecent assault on boys in Dublin between 1963 and 1969.

Some of the offences took place inside the Garda station. 

The inquest into the death of Savita Halappanavar will resume on April 8th.

It was opened at Galway Circuit Courthouse this morning and was told that are still 8 statements from staff of Galway University Hospital outstanding.

While 6 of those statements will be delivered shortly there are problems with 2 others. 

31 year old Savita who was 17 weeks pregnant died last October after miscarrying. 

Her widower's solicitor Gerard O'Donnell said he had no concerns about how thorough the inquest will be when it resumes in April.

Earlier Pope Benedict announced Monsignor Eamon Martin to the role of Coadjutor Bishop of Armagh meaning he'll eventually take over from Cardinal Sean Brady as the Catholic Primate of All-Ireland. 

Bishop Martin has been involved in bringing child protection measures to the fore of the church and this has been welcomed by Enda Kenny.

Former workers from HMV's store in Cork are staging a sit-in after managing to gain access to the building on Patrick Steet this afternoon. 

The workers say they will occupy the city centre premise until they are paid, what they say they are owed by the company. 

A similar sit-in began at two HMV stores in Limerick on Wednesday after the company went into receivership the previous day. 

The Road Safety Authority's warning motorists to take extreme care this evening and tonight as wintry conditions persist in many parts of the country. 

Blizards and accumulations of snow are still proving hazardous in northern parts of Leinster, Ulster and Connacht. 

However in other areas is heavy rain and flooding which is proving dangerous.
