Gardaí suspect a fire that broke out at a property in Ballyfermot on Saturday was arson. 

At 4.35 in the morning, Gardaí in Clondalkin were called out to the property; Dublin Fire Brigade rescued six people from the blaze - two of whom were children - and put out the fire. 

All six have since been treated for smoke inhalation.

The fire is now being investigated by Clondalkin Garda Station’s Crime South Unit and an examination of the scene has been carried out. Gardaí described the damage to the property as "extensive".
