Sixties folk legend Donovan has been convicted of dangerous driving in Skibbereen, West Cork.
The court heard Gardaí received a report that a driver was driving erratically on February 11th and when the car parked up Leitch identified himself as the driver.
In evidence, Garda Daniel Quinlan said Leitch was disorientated and there was a strong smell of alcohol from him, so he arrested him on suspicion of drink driving and brought him to Bantry Garda station.
However, the singer was unable to give a breath sample at the Garda station as he suffers from severe COPD and restrictive lung disease.
Judge James McNulty accepted that he had a ‘legitimate reason’ for being unable to provide the breath sample and dismissed this charge against him.
He reserved his decision on a charge of drink driving on the night in question and will deliver his judgement in February next year, in which he will impose sentence for the dangerous driving conviction.
