A hiker has died at the peak of Ulster’s highest mountain.
Emergency services were called to the peak of Slieve Donard shortly after lunchtime yesterday after a walker collapsed at the summit.
The Mourne Mountain Rescue Team (MMRT) responded alongside an Air Ambulance and a SAR (Search and Rescue) Aircraft.
In a post online the MMRT said the walker sadly passed away at the scene despite the best efforts of all involved, “in particular fellow hill walkers”.
It said 12 members of its rescue team responded to the call and were stood down at 4:40pm.
“Our thoughts are very much with family, friends and all those involved at this time,” it said.
