People will be waking up to a mix of sleet, rain and snow this morning, with temperatures set to stay low.
Status Yellow snow and ice warnings have been issued for 15 counties.
The alert is now in effect for Clare, Tipperary, Galway, Laois, Offaly, Westmeath, Wicklow, Cavan, Donegal, Monaghan, Leitrim, Mayo, Roscommon, Sligo and Longford.
Sleet and snow are expected up to 8pm tonight in places leading to some accumulations, most significant on higher ground.
The affected areas could see hazardous travelling conditions, poor visibility and ice on untreated surfaces.
Met Éireann Forecaster Aoife Kealy told Newstalk Breakfast the weather will move north as the day goes on.
"The worst areas through this morning and afternoon will be the west and north, and parts of the midlands as well," she said.
"Then as the day goes on, any sleet and snow is going to become more confined to Ulster with patchy rain elsewhere.
"So, really this morning it's kind of over the northern half of the country that the worst of the conditions will be.
"There's already been some sleet and snow, particularly across parts of the west and north-midlands.
"As the day goes on that sleet and snow, and outbreaks of rain too, will spread further northwards.
"So, there will be places where people are waking up to that bit of sleet/rain mixture and even some snow".

Ms Kealy said temperatures will stay low throughout the day.
"It's going to be quite a cold and blustery day, it's really going to feel quite cold in a fresh easterly wind," she said.
"Even in many areas as the rain, sleet and snow eases, it'll still feel fairly bitter.
"It looks like it's going to stay quite cold in the coming days, really through the weekend and even into the early days of next week," she added.
Ms Kealy added that while nighttime temperatures will drop below freezing in places, daytime temperatures could reach 9C.
