A status yellow snow & ice warning has been issued for the entire country, ahead of an expected 'cold snap' over the next 24 hours.

The warning is valid from 10pm tonight until midday tomorrow.

Met Éireann says there'll be "blustery squally showers of hail, sleet and snow" across the country, with some thunder and lightning also expected.

They're warning that the cold weather will lead to hazardous driving conditions on Wednesday night and Thursday morning.

Temperatures are expected to fall as low as -2 degrees overnight.

Wintry showers are expected to continue through Thursday, before drier weather on Friday and Saturday.
