Ceann Comhairle Sean Barrett has released a statement concerning the RTÉ interview he delivered last week.
In it, he states that in the heat of the moment he may have given the impression that the opposition were not entitled to question his decision as to why the Debate was not allowed. However, he says he accepts "that they are entitled to question my decision."
However, he did not retract his comments that the Opposition were "out to get him."
Today, Minister Alan Kelly suggested today that he would possibly like to see the CPP deal with the debate concerns.
The Committee on Procedure and Privileges (CPP) considers matters of procedure, recommends any additions or amendments to the Standing Orders and considers and reports as and when requested to do so on Members' privileges.
Speaking to Jonathan Healy on Lunchtime, Minister Kelly said he wanted the debate to go ahead: "My concern is to make sure that at all times that every issue that is of a priority, it can be discussed."
"He was in a very difficult situation.
"Maybe through calling in the committee, the CPP, Procedures and Privileges, we could deal with this issue because certainly it's not something we want to see dragged out.
On whether he should withdraw remarks made about the Opposition, Minister Kelly commented: "I wouldn't dare tell the Ceann Comhairle what to do."
On the other hand, Health Minister Leo Varadkar says the Ceann Comhairle should not withdraw the remarks.
His comments come as Fianna Fáil and Sinn Féin discuss the possibility of a motion of no confidence in Sean Barrett, after he ruled out a debate on the inquiry into Garda malpractice allegations.
Sean Barrett told RTE radio last week that it was "perfectly obvious" that the opposition was "out to get him".
And Mr Varadkar the Ceann Comhairle should not back down.
Meanwhile, Sinn Fein's Deputy leader says she has no interest in being on a collision course with anyone.
Mary-Lou McDonald says she's seen the speculation about a motion of no confidence in Sean Barrett in the media - but they haven't discussed it.
She's insisted all her party's interested in is Dail business being conducted fairly.
