Wicklow TD Jennifer Whitmore is recovering in hospital after a ‘sudden medical emergency’.
The Social Democrats TD was rushed to St Vincent’s Hospital on Monday where she was admitted to the ICU.
In a post online her husband Tony Duddy said she is now doing much better; however, she will remain in hospital for “another few days at least”.
He noted that she will also face a recovery period and will be easing herself back to work.
“It's been a surreal few days,” he wrote. “After the excitement of last weekend’s elections, we had a bit of a fright Monday where Jennifer experienced a sudden medical emergency and I had to call the ambulance."
Mr Duddy said the upcoming summer break would offer a further chance for recovery adding, “It's things like this that remind us what is important in life”.
“A huge thank you to the incredible staff at St Vincent's for their speedy intervention, particularly in the ICU,” he wrote.
“The very genuine care that we have experienced over the last few days has really touched us.”
Deputy Whitmore’s hospitalisation came after a long weekend at the local election count centre in Greystones, where three of her Social Democrats colleagues were elected.
