Celebrity solicitor Gerald Kean has been accused of engaging in a cover up of his misconduct that became increasingly elaborate and desperate over time.
The lawyer from Co Cork is facing a €20,000 fine after the Solicitor's Disciplinary Tribunal found he misled a client.
Mr Kean has often been in the social pages of the Sunday papers and is known beyond legal circles for his numerous television appearances on programmes like 'Celebrity Bainisteoir'.
But earlier this year the Solicitor's Disciplinary Tribunal recommended he be fined for professional misconduct.
It found that the well known lawyer had misled a client into believing he had lodged an appeal from a District Court judgment when he had not.
Mr Kean is now challenging that finding.
Today on appeal his lawyers said the tribunal relied too heavily on the uncorroborated evidence of his former client - but counsel for the tribunal accused Mr Kean of engaging in a cover up and said his position at the disciplinary hearing was 'incoherent confused and made very little sense'.
High Court President Nicholas Kearns will rule on the appeal at a later date.
