Mr Buffett was famous for his song ‘Margaritaville’, which popularised beach bum soft rock, and his network of restaurants and resorts.
In 2016, he was listed as the 13th richest celebrity by Forbes, with a net worth of $550 million.
He was also nominated for two Grammys for ‘Hey Good Lookin’ and ‘It’s Five O'clock Somewhere’.
Mr Buffett dubbed his brand of music “drunken Caribbean rock ‘n’ roll.”
He was due to release a new album later this year, releasing news songs on his own Radio Margaritaville every Friday.
The singer is survived by his wife, Jane Slagsvol, two daughters, Savannah and Sarah, and son, Cameron.
