Spending on EV charging across the country rose by 12% in February.

That's according to data from the AIB Spend Trend, which shows an increase of 83% year-on-year.

Head of consumer banking at AIB Adrian Moynihan attributed the increase on EV spending to ownership.

"We think that's down to two factors, one is due to the increased levels of EV ownership," he said.

"[It's] great to see the strong start that new EVs there had into 2025.

"And then more people taking trips for both leisure purposes - and also maybe signalling greater levels of return to office.

"Overall that's something we would expect to continue to see is that continued growth in EV charging spending."

The bank analysed data from 67 million card transactions carried out by its customers in-store and online.
