Met Éireann has extended a status yellow warning for fog until tomorrow morning.
The nationwide alert came into effect yesterday afternoon and was due to expire at 10am this morning.
However, forecasters now say the fog will linger in some parts of the country for much of today, before it becomes widespread and dense again this evening.
The warning will now remain in place until 9am on Sunday.

Meteorologist Cathal Nolan explained that road users need to be particularly careful due to the foggy conditions.
He said: "Certainly many of us are waking up to some quite dense fog across the country this morning, and indeed we do expect that that fog will continue on for quite a number of hours.
"The advice to motorists certainly is to reduce speed and of course put on your fog lights. Drive with care, as the visibility is greatly reduced due to the denseness of the fog."
