Met Éireann has issued a Status Yellow wind warning for four counties with gusts of up to 100 km/h forecast.
The warning for Donegal, Leitrim, Mayo and Sligo will come into effect at 5pm today and will end at 6am on Tuesday.
North-westerly winds will strengthen this evening and tonight, with average speeds of 50 to 60 km/h and gusts of 90 to 100 km/h expected.
The wind will be strongest near coastal areas.
As for the rest of the country, there will be sunny spells and scattered showers today.
In the north and west, some of these showers will be heavy with a risk of hail and will become increasingly wintry later on high ground in north Connacht and Ulster.
Rain will become widespread early tonight and it will be blustery in all areas.
In Ulster, it will become very windy with gales in coastal areas.
Lowest temperatures will range between 1 to 5 degrees and showers will begin clearing in the morning.
Tomorrow will be largely dry and sunny with highest temperatures of 7 to 9 degrees.
