The head of the Irish Stock Exchange (ISE) is warning that Ireland is in danger of missing out on a new generation of large companies.
Deirdre Somers says an enterprise policy is needed to stimulate the next generation of global Irish businesses which need help in making the leap from their current level to the next.
She was speaking at the Irish Enterprise Funding for Growth conference in Dublin.
The Exchange has been providing markets for companies to raise capital and trading services since 1793.
Ms. Somers said the policy should aim to build 5 to 10 companies to scale with a value of more than €1 billion over the next 10 years.
She warned that a failure to do so will have implications for the economy and job creation.
She also said there are a number of issues facing companies who want to grow.
