The Irish Coast Guard are advising people planning any water-based activities this Bank Holiday weekend to check forecasts in advance of going out.
Coast Guard Operations Manager Gerard O' Flynn said people should not swim alone this weekend.
“Make sure somebody ashore is monitoring,” he said. “Equally, only swim in areas with which you are familiar and preferably lifeguard-protected beaches.
“We do acknowledge and know that not all beaches have lifeguards, but it's very important that you only swim in areas with which we are familiar and that you know are safe.”
