Status Yellow weather warnings have been issued with Storm Lilian set to hit Ireland later this evening.
A Status Yellow rain warning will come into force at 10pm tonight in Clare, Galway, Roscommon, Longford, Louth, Meath, Offaly and Westmeath.
The forecaster said the heavy rain will bring the risk of localised flooding and difficult travelling conditions.
Later, a Status Yellow wind warning will come into force for Munster, Wexford, Wicklow, Carlow, Kilkenny, Laois, Kildare, Dublin.
Met Éireann is warning people to prepare for “unseasonably strong and gusty” winds with the continued risk of coastal flooding due to high tides.
It said the weather will also bring the risk of wave over-topping, power outages and fallen trees.
Storm Lilian
Met Éireann forecaster Brandon Creagh said Storm Lilian will pass over Ireland tonight.
“We can expect some localised flooding and difficult travelling conditions if you are travelling overnight but the main effects will be passing over us between the hours of say 11pm and 6am on Friday morning,” he said.
“The system will have passed on by then with rainfall having cleared and the strongest winds having abated.
“There will be some loose fallen objects tomorrow morning so do take care if you are travelling then.”
Weather
Met Éireann said the wind and rain will clear north-eastwards from most parts as Friday morning approaches.
Friday will then bring a mix of sunny spells and showers.
Some of the showers will be heavy with isolated thunderstorms and the chance of hail, especially in the west and north.
Temperatures will range between 14C and 18C.
Meanwhile, the weekend is set to be unsettled and cooler than average with an Atlantic low pressure dominating.
Saturday will be a bright and breezy day with sunshine and some heavy showers – although there will also be “good dry spells”, especially further to the east and south.
It comes after the tail end of Hurricane Ernesto brought high winds and rain to many parts of Ireland overnight.
