Animal control officials are searching for new owners for two dogs with a truly remarkable friendship.
Chachi, a Chihuahua and Joanie, a lab-pit bull mix, were found on Thursday in a suburb of Savannah, Georgia in the US.
But they weren't any ordinary stray dogs. Joanie, the larger of the two, was found carrying her injured friend in her mouth. Chachi was suffering from a severe eye infection and was clearly being cared for by his friend.
Staff at the local animal shelter were unable to save Chachi's sight, but has been recuperating since being taken in.
Speaking to WJCL News, Animal Control Officer Christina Sutherin said: "It’s not every day we get to see such devotion between two special dogs like this. They are both such sweet animals. But the relationship they share just sets them apart. It would be wonderful if we could find a home that could take both of them. But that is not always possible."
The dogs were able to reunite on Tuesday, and will now be put up for adoption. Staff at the shelter hope to find someone who will take both, so the pair can continue their dedicated relationship.
