A new study is highlighting the far-reaching economic impact of child sex abuse on survivors.
Researchers from the ESRI and Trinity College Dublin found that male survivors are three times more likely to be out of work due to sickness or disability compared to other men, and are twice as likely to be living alone.
Male survivors are also estimated to live in households where household income is 34% lower.
8,500 people aged 50 and over were questioned between 2009 and 2011 for the study, which is one of the first of its kind. Participants were interviewed about issues such as income, wealth, labour force status and health.
