The cold weather is expected to continue until Tuesday morning, but the cold snap will abate slightly as temperatures rise later in the day.
Temperatures dropped to minus six degrees last night in some parts of the country and are expected to drop to minus two later tonight. Western parts of Munster and Connacht should get milder temperatures as cloud increases, meaning temperatures won;t fall below one degree.
There is a possibility of icy conditions in the east of the country early tomorrow but Met Eireann says this should give way to milder temperatures later, with the higher temperatures remaining through Tuesday and into Wednesday, meaning we should be ice and frost free on those nights.
