Fine Gael's TDs are meeting in Dublin this afternoon, as speculation continues over when the general election will be held.
The Taoiseach says the Dáíl will reconvene as planned next week - despite yesterday being unable to give an absolute guarantee that TDs would return to sit next Wednesday.
He and Fianna Fáil leader Micheál Martin held a "constructive meeting" last night over the current Dáil situation, and are due to meet again next week.
Speaking today, Leo Varadkar said he still wants a May election.
He explained: "It's always been my preference to have an election in the summer.
"The nature of being in politics is that it's much nicer to be knocking on doors and to be out meeting people on main street's when the sun is shining and the rain is not falling.
"That's a personal preference - what really matters is when is the right time for the country."
Asked about the possibility of an early February election, he claimed it could "hopefully be a Valentine's Day massacre for our opponents".
However, he added: "When the time is right for an election, it should be at the right time for the country - not necessarily the right time for any political party or any particular politician."
