The Taoiseach says the government will consider including the women who worked at Summerhill in Wexford under a new compensation scheme for the women of the Magdalene Laundries.

Summerhill was designated as a training centre and was not included in the report into the Magdalene Laundries carried out by former Senator Martin McAleese.

Enda Kenny said the government wanted to ensure that the compensation scheme was administered in the simplest and most effective way possible.

And he told the Sinn Fein leader Gerry Adams that the Cabinet would consider including Summerhill in Wexford under the scheme.

Speaking in Dublin this morning, the Education Minister Ruairí Quinn says the apology yesterday went some way to moving away from intolerance.
