Electric Picnic-goers are more likely to need suncream than ponchos and wellies this weekend.

Kodaline and Calvin Harris are headlining on day two of the festival in Stradbally.

The weather forecast predicts mostly dry weather today, with temperatures in the high teens.

It’s expected to be quite cool at night, but Alan O'Reilly from Carlow Weather said the forecast is mainly positive.

“There’s a dry weekend in store for the 75,000 music fans at Electric Picnic. Another good day ahead is expected, with temperatures reaching up to maybe 19°C or 20°C,” he told Newstalk.

“There will be sunny spells on and off, so it’ll still be a 'jumper on, jumper off' type of weather, but don’t forget the suncream because there will also be good sunny spells.

“At this time of the year, you can still get sunburned, so it’s more suncream than ponchos and wellies this year.”

Night time chills

Mr O'Reilly added that it’s expected to get “cool at night time.”

“It was quite cool Thursday night, with temperatures dropping below 5°C in some areas, so probably 9°C or 10°C tonight - a little bit chilly for the campers,” he said.

“Other than that, it’s really going to be perfect; a nice breeze, a drying breeze, but no real strong winds.”

The Waterboys play their first concert at The Electric Picnic music and arts festival in Stradbally, County Laois, Ireland.

The Samaritans will also be providing support to people in the main arena and at the Jimi Hendrix campsite until tomorrow morning.

Ken Bamford, spokesperson for the Irish festival branch, encouraged attendees not to be afraid to talk.

“Feel free to share some thoughts, to open up about things that are difficult in your life,” he said.

“One thing that comes to mind is that it’s without judgment; it’s about how you’re feeling.

“We won’t give advice but will allow you to explore your own ideas, your own thoughts, and the difficulties you may be experiencing.”
