A mother who underwent an entirely unwarranted symphysiotomy procedure in 1969 has said her legal struggle was never about money.
The High Court awarded Olivia Kearney 450,000 euros general damages but today on appeal the Supreme Court reduced the sum to 325,000 euros.
It found the original award was more appropriate for cases involving truly catastrophic injuries such as brain damage.
The 60 year old of Rosses Hollow, Milestown, Castlebellingham was 18 when the controversial procedure was carried out at Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital in Drogheda.
