Marie Fleming, the 59 year old terminally ill woman who wishes to end her life, will find out today if she's won her legal challenge to the law on assisted suicide.
Seven judges of the Supreme Court heard her appeal against the High Court's refusal to relax the ban and they will hand down their decision this morning.
Marie Fleming is in the final stages of multiple sclerosis and wants to end her suffering by dying peacefully at home with her partner Tom Curran and her 2 adult children.
However the former University lecturer needs help physically to take her life but the law in Ireland bans assisted suicide.
She claims it is an unconstitutional law that is incompatible with the European Convention on Human Rights.
However, when Ms Fleming challenged the the ban on assisted suicide in the High Court it was upheld. It found the law is in the public interest and does not disproportionately interfere with Marie Fleming's personal rights.
Today it will become clear if the Supreme Court shares that view or whether it'll rule in favour of assisted suicide in certain limited circumstances.
