The Consumer Association revealed this morning that Irish airlines Ryanair and Aer Lingus are the most expensive when it comes to charging for baggage.
The survey compared the baggage prices  for 12 airlines and found the two Irish airlines, to be the highest. The two airlines have both increased the prices of their baggage charges during this years peak summer season.
In some cases it could cost Ryanair passengers up to €100 to check-in baggage at  a airport if a passenger fails to check their luggage in online.
Ryanair also checks passengers carry-on luggage before boarding as well as charging a passenger €50 if their cabin luggage exceeds 10kg.
A Ryanair spokesman told the Irish Independent; “Ryanair has always delivered consumer choice, which is why the number of passengers checking in a bag has fallen from over 80pc to less than 30pc since we introduced baggage fees.”
Aer Lingus charges €40 to check-in luggage at a airport compared to online check-in price of €20.
An Aer Lingus spokesperson said that its generous luggage allowances for it’s long haul flights as well as flexi fare prices including baggage charges.
The survey also compared prices of  Aer Arann, Air France, American Airlines, British Airways, Iberia, Luft-hansa, Jet2, JetBlue, Quantas and Southwest airlines.
