Patrick Dunne (19) has appeared in court, charged with the murder of his Mother Susan Dunne (53). She was found dead at her north Kerry home on Wednesday.
Mr. Dunne of Ballinagearagh, Lixnaw was brought by gardaí before a special sitting of Killarney District Court this morning. He wore handcuffs and was accompanied throughout the short hearing by a plain-clothes garda.
Detective Sargeant John Gleeson gave evidence before Judge Olan Kelliher that on Thursday at 8.24pm, he arrested Patrick Dunne at Listowel garda station.
At 9.10pm, Mr. Dunne was charged with the murder of his Mother, Susan Dunne, on or about November 27th 2013 at Ballinagearagh, Lixnaw. The accused made no reply to the charges.
Gardaí asked that Patrick Dunne be remanded to St. Patrick’s Institution in Dublin.
Mr. Dunne’s solicitor, Pat Enright, said he had no objection but he would be preparing a bail application for submission to the High Court. He also asked that appropriate medical care be afforded to his client.
An application for free legal aid was granted and Judge Kelliher remanded the accused to appear on Wednesday next at 11am at Listowel District Court.
