Officials in France say police have shot a man dead in a suburb of Paris after he stabbed several people, killing at least one of them.
French media reports that two other victims are seriously injured.
Officers have cordoned off a park in Villejuif and are advising people to avoid the area after the attack.
Vincent Jeanbrun, the mayor of nearby L'Hay-les-Roses area, told French news station BFM-TV that the attacker targeted people in the park before fleeing to a shopping centre, adding that police then shot the suspect dead.
According to police union official Yves Lefebvre, officers fired at the man as they feared he was wearing an explosive belt.
There was no immediate indication of a motive for the attack.
French Interior Minister Christophe Castaner said his thoughts were with the families of the victims.
He said security forces reacted with "composure and professionalism", and pledged an investigation to establish the facts.
