Syrian forces and militiamen loyal to President Bashar al-Assad have reportedly killed at least 85 people including women and children in Damascus. 

Opposition activists have claimed that pro-Assad forces stormed a suburb town in the west of the capital, shooting dead innocent civilians.

There has been no immediate confirmation of the activists' account.

Syrian authorities have banned most independent media since the uprising two years ago.
