Warring sides in the Syrian conflict have begun a face to face meeting 'in the same room' to try and bring peace to the country.
It's hoped the negotiations might find a resolution after three years of civil war and at least 100 thousand deaths.
The UN envoy Lakhdar Brahimi is brokering the peace talks in Geneva, between those loyal to President Bashar al-Assad and the opposition.
Syria's Deputy Foreign Minister Faisal Mekdad hopes the talks might lead to fair elections in Syria:
“We hope, at least on our part, we are looking forward to a fruitful discussion, for a quick discussion. To sort out this problem and bring back the peace to Syria. We have to debate this issue and see what kind of transition is needed for Syria,” he said.
